Aurora Slot Car Pictures ~ Tracks

Here we have a selection of track pictures that show several of the layouts that we have had set up at one time or another.  Newer layouts are located towards the top of this webpage.

March 2008 Track Layout

Here is a good look at the current track layout.  If you look at some our slot car picture webpages you will see we also added some trees, a water tower, and a water tank.  The items really make the track look nice.

And another direction.

March 2008 Track Layout

This picture was taken during the assembly of the current layout.

At one point we included a couple of curve criss cross tracks to try and balance out the inside and outside turns, but they caused a lot of spinouts.

The trees really add a life like quality to the track.

A nice look at the bridge with the water tank and shed in the background.

The water tower has a red light at the top but we don't have it wired up yet.

Silverton Water Tank

Another angle of the "Silverton" Water Tank.  In this picture one can also see the Cobblestone tracks.

Water Tower

Here is a fairly clean look at the water tower and the landscape insert that we built to fit inside the "Y" track.

Auroraville

This picture was taken with the only light source in the room being one light in the corner.  We did this to try and represent the hour just before sunset.  We like how it turned out.

Water Tower

The Chevelle and Dune Buggy cruise around the water tower.

We have decided to name our town "Auroraville".  Sounds good!

Evening

Another "evening" picture.

It would sure be cool to have a couple of Flamethrowers in this picture!

Early-2008 Track Layout

This is an early 2008 track layout.  This is the layout that was used for our first ten "Aurora Slot Car Race" videos that are on YouTube.

Prior to building this layout we put felt over the two old doors (that are setting on saw horses) in order to make the track look nicer.  Wow, what an improvement, as you will see compared to several pictures on this webpage that were taken before the felt was added.

Early-2008 Track Layout

The felt was inexpensive.  We first went to a fabric store and they were out of the green felt we were looking for.  We found the felt we needed at a hobby store, and we bought a piece 72" wide by 84" long.  We went with the color "Kelly Green" as it seemed to be the best choice.  Other colors of green seemed too bright.

We also thought felt was a good choice for when cars wipe out, as felt is soft and there is less chance of damage to a car body.

Early-2008 Track Layout

This was a fun track layout, and fairly fast as you will see in the slot car race videos.

Previous Layout

Track in mid-2007

Here is a track that we set up mid-2007.  As you can see, this is before we put the green felt over the wood doors.

This was a fairly elaborate layout, as there were actually three levels of track in Lego station!  The Lego structure was an important part of the track.

Track in mid-2007

See if you can follow this crazy layout!

There is a gold Johnny Lightning Batmobile on the top level.

Track in mid-2007

A Lego dude smiling in the face of danger by standing on the race track.

At about this time we rigged up an open bed trailer that various T-Jets could pull, and my son gave rides to Lego dudes that they are probably still having nightmares about!

I can still remember the trailer fish-tailing around turns with Lego dudes hanging over the edge of the trailer, or worse yet, flying out of the trailer!

Another Previous Layout

Track in early 2007

Here is an even older track that we had set up in 2007.

We had a cobblestone track running through the middle of Lego station!
